Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are shells of tooth-colored porcelain or other materials that are meant to improve the appearance of your teeth. They are meant to reflect and mimic the properties of your natural teeth, all while improving your smile. Dental veneers are meant to fix discolored, worn down, chipped, misaligned, irregularly shaped, and/or gapped teeth by replacing your original tooth enamel.

The procedure can be done on any number of teeth at one time. Dentists at Terrell Mill Family Dentistry begin by removing a small amount of enamel from the tooth’s surface so that the adhesive and the veneer itself can later be applied to your tooth. Usually the area is numbed before the enamel is removed. Once the enamel is removed, a mold will be made of your teeth and sent to a dental laboratory where they create the veneers.

It takes some time for your custom veneers to actually be created. Once they are ready, dentists at Terrell Mill Family Dentistry will do a trial-run and temporarily place them on your teeth to inspect it’s fit and color. After fixing any requests you may have, your teeth are cleaned and slightly etched to create a stronger bond for when the veneer is applied. Once they are applied with special cement, your dentist will shine a light beam on them to activate the cement and cause it to harden at an accelerated rate.

There are many benefits to dental veneers. They greatly improve your appearance and look almost exactly like a natural tooth. After they are applied, maintaining the veneers is a simple routine. Just treat them as you would treat your usual teeth, by brushing and flossing every day.
